Are You a Human Being or a Human Doing?

Ever feel like your life is a never-ending marathon, moving faster than you can keep up?

I've got things to do, places to be and people to see.

The list is endless.

The voice in my head keeps reminding me like a constant tug of my shirt.

Thoughts are flying around my head.

We're all busy, going to work, paying the bills, buying groceries and maintaining some what of a social life.

When we've got a moment to ourselves, that voice reminds you of that endless list.

Thoughts are flying around your head.

Do this, do that, whip out the phone respond to messages and social media posts.

Buy that item that was on sale for this week only.

At some point you start feeling tension in your body.

You get snappy at family and friends and think people are annoying.

If only life were easier.

If only I had someone to clean the house.

If only I had someone to take care of the paper work.

I need a holiday.

“Why are you unhappy? Because 99.9 percent of everything you think, and of everything you do, is for yourself — and there isn’t one.”
- Wu Wei Wu

You've become a human doing.

Not a human being.

The thing about thoughts, is they aren't you.

You are not your thoughts.

Your identity is not established by the voice in your head.

They are echos of others opinions, fallout from a cultre of hustling.

They are impressions from constant exposure to media.

You think too much.

Where instead, you just need to be.

We are creatures of habit, if you constantly think of things to do and places to be, you will become that.

You will never find a moment to stop and find peace.

You must stop

The time is now.

Take 5 minutes to be still.

When you notice your mind telling you things to do, tell it:

"Shut the F*ck up!"

Look around you, what do you see, find something to be grateful for.

It could be a book, a plant or a person.

Anything. Just stop and appreciate what is around you.

Those 5 minutes are a gift to yourself - a reminder that your worth isn't in your to-do list but in your ability to just be.

If you can't find happiness in being, it's not going to find you in your habitual state of doing.

You only HAVE this moment now. You don't have the future or the past, they are gone or yet to be.

It may not sound like much, but making this a habit over time will clear your thinking, boost your confidence and allow you to experience happiness in the moment.

Set yourself a reminder on your phone to be still for 5 minutes per day.

When negativity or the todo list pops up, tell your mind to "Shut the F*ck up!"

Happiness isn't waiting for you in the future; it's here, now, in the stillness you create.
